Ah- Guy... unlike Charlie Sheen, is ACTUALLY winning <3 I know alot don't like him, but I think it's the writer that dictates how I like him. A good writer can make him an ass that I love, where a bad one just makes him a waste of fresh air. He's great quality. So many write him poorly. Guy is more than an ass hole just like Kyle is more than a sack of meat to kick about when you need to fire the rookie card at someone >.> *refers back to Mark Waid's Kyle on how to write Kyle RIGHT*
Yeah, it really depends on the writer with Guy. I think that a lot of writers don't like Guy's emotional intensity and just choose to interpret him as nothing more than a hot headed bully. But if you look back on this character's entire history, you get a much different picture of him. For just one example, I like how we get a glimpse of Guy's overall motivation in Guy Gardner Warrior when it reveals how he had an abusive father and his parents adored his brother while considering Guy completely worthless. And when it turned out his brother was a fake, Guy tried to hide it from his parents out of love for the family who didn't give a crap about him. But at his heart, he's a protector, which also comes out in another way because of the fact that he also became a PE teacher for special needs kids. I would characterize him as a warrior who protects those who can't protect themselves and who will absolutely kill anyone who messes with those he loves (Even becoming a Red Lantern to do so!). With his tough guy persona, he also protects his own softer side which is the loving side of himself that was rejected by his family (which is the source of his anger also)... Um.. Sorry about all this writing. I have way too many feelings for fictional characters.
Yeah- I think Guy can be easily written wrong too. MY impression of him is that he's loud and arrogant, but it's all for show. I think deep down he has a good heart- he just doesn't show it in the typical fashion, and his arrogance is fun Hal can get very vanilla with how straight laced he is. Guy fights back from what he doesn't believe in and follows his own rule set. He's a chotic good rather than a lawful good I like that abotu him cause so many characters are lawful good. I see Kyle as a neutral good incidentally (can you tell I play DND? XD )
hahaha, yeah, looking forward to seeing what happens with him in Red lanterns (spoilers? ) i wish too though they could straighten out some of the intercomic timelines...right now guy's in Justice League International, Green Lantern Corp, and now showing up in Red Lanterns too...
I have no idea what is going to happen in Red Lanterns. And the screwy timeline across the 52 is driving me nuts in general. If they are going to have them all on different timelines, they at least need to tell us what they are! Grrr... As far as we know with Guy, he doesn't know who Martian Manhunter is in GLC, he's only just started to date Tora in JLI, and now he just randomly pops into another story line that doesn't seem to be tied into any particular timeline. All we know is that RL is ahead of New Gaurdians bc of the blood bath thing. But we don't know where it is in relation to the other titles. I'm starting to wonder if the writers even know at this point.
yeah, i have to wonder that as well...at least it's not as bad as the batman comics, 6 series with him showing up in all of them i hope they come up with some kind of official timeline soon, the only thing we know for sure is that justice league is close probably the earliest story, and no idea bout most of the others
